Queen Bee hatched itself quite naturally out of my Virtual Assistant business, ‘The Alternative PA’, which has been offering PA, administration and project management support since 2016. After a very successful three years, I couldn’t help noticing that more and more of my clients wanted my help with marketing and with event planning & management. This is a happy coincidence, as these areas are where my true passion and career experience lie.
I’m a great believer in seeing the big picture and in not over-complicating the strategy for getting a client from their current state A to a desired state B, which is where the value of having an outsider with a bird’s eye view of the marketing maze comes into its own. Having navigated every path with many clients, I can safely guide you through it.
While the ways in which we engage with audiences in the online space may be constantly changing, the one insight to emerge from my 20 years of working with start-ups and small businesses is that social media isn’t everything – yes, really! Social media is but one element of marketing a business; to get it right, you need to create a brand that delivers consistent and creative messaging across all platforms, and a website with powerful content (and that means images as much as words) that tells your story perfectly. Events, product launches, workshops or celebrations can also serve as an important component of this marketing mix.
From PA work to positions in the marketing, event management and the conference and hospitality industries, I have a huge range of career skills. Along the way, I’ve had the pleasure of working with many fantastic clients on their business events, corporate dinners, vintage fairs, open days, trade stands and even a wedding for 500 guests! I’m unflappable even when those around me might not be, which makes me quite a good person to have around in a drama!
There is of course nothing like the hands-on experience of running my own business, pitfalls and all, to give me an empathetic understanding of the needs of business owners. I absolutely “get” that entrepreneurs, start-ups and SMEs don’t have limitless funds to market their business, which is why I pride myself on offering a completely affordable service, compared with larger marketing agencies. Since clients deal with just one person and no studio overheads (i.e. me, working from home), I’m able to keep costs down, while my extensive network of marketing experts allows clients to access a wider range of services if required.
I genuinely love what I do. Helping budding entrepreneurs and new businesses find their feet is reason enough to get me out of bed each morning, and nothing gives me more of a buzz than to sit down and find out exactly what you want to achieve and to offer an effective marketing solution well within your budget.

What’s the Queen Bee about?
The business name is derived from my name, Deborah, which stems from its Hebrew equivalent, Devorah, meaning “bee”. The name also has a rather grand ancestry from Biblical times no less, as one such Deborah mentioned in the Old Testament is the heroine who saves the day by leading the Israelites when they are under enemy attack!
Well, I like to think that the connection is quite apt.
Just like a busy bee, I love my work. I thrive on forever having a “to do” list on the go and I will always go the extra mile for my clients. I am a born organiser and will happily be your heroine when it comes to getting you, your business or event on the road, leading you away from the stress and pressure of trying to do everything yourself. And I give you my 100% guarantee that I don’t suffer from “Queen Bee Syndrome”! At heart, I am really a Worker Bee… the royalty bit is just in my name, not my nature!
